CareForHealth visited Bint-e-Fatima on Wednesday 13th October, 2021. Bint-e-Fatima is an old home and support for female senior citizens of Pakistan founded by Mrs. Farzana Shoaib and her son, Mr. Asad in 2011 and currently houses 55 women. CFH team conducted a discussion support group with the residents of Binte Fatima. It has been working to provide shelter, support and love for mothers who have either no home or no place in their own homes where they raised their families. It was pleasantly surprising that it was not like the usual dilapidated building that usually shelters such homes in Pakistan. It was a beautiful house nestled in the serene area of Phase 8. It was heartwarming to see the cleanliness of the place and the staff. The discussion was held in the lounge that housed a big screen television where everyone was watching a Pakistani serial and enjoying glasses of cold beverage. During the discussion, the residents told us about their years at Bint-e-Fatima and the families who had left them behind. They also mentioned how it was very lively before the pandemic when a lot of people visited them and they had activity-based sessions. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, they had less visitors and more loneliness despite their praise for Bint-e-Fatima management. All women told CFH team that they were fully vaccinated. Some women loved to pray and were reading dua during our discussion. It was heart-wrenching to hear stories of some mothers. Some believed that they were only visiting for a day and seemed to have lost track of time. A few mothers had rationalized that in the busy schedule of today, they had to be brought here to be looked after. CFH team distributed milk cartons and self-care products to the old home. The team was invited for tea and chit chat by these beautiful old ladies and we were requested to bring Nimko on their next visit. Hats off to Mrs. Farzana Shoaib and her son, Mr. Asad for taking care of our senior citizens and mothers.
